[International Cooperation][Engineering] National Chung Cheng University Cooperates with German Time-Honored Gear Company (Chinese Version)

CCU News (2010/06/28) National Chung Cheng University and the time-honored gear manufacturer Klingelnberg GmbH cooperate to develop a quality analysis software for bevel gear. Dean of College of Engineering, National Chung Cheng University, Professor Zhang-Hua FONG and CTO of Klingelnberg Dr. Muller attended the signing ceremony on June 28, which sets off the international cooperation project. According to the contract, the company will contribute the equipment and software of about twenty million NT dollars to the university.

The target of the cooperation, the quality analysis software for bevel gear, will give a testing method for the relation between bevel gear and noise. Bevel gear is a conical type of gear which is widely used in the gear box or differential mechanism of a car or in the daily electronic products such as power drills and blenders. A fine bevel gear needs to operate smoothly, accurately and quietly, while the excellence of the testing process is very important to the bevel gear production regarding the quality control.

The quality analysis software can detect the geometrical features of the tested. Utilizing mathematical methods, the transfer error between straight bevel gear and spiral bevel gear can be obtained, and by means of the data the noise level can be accurately determined. The software will combine the present two major testing methods, namely, "geometric precision measurement of gear contact" and "operative performance testing," reducing their defects and offering an innovative testing model, so that the gear's performance can be simulated and analyzed in its still state. With this software, gears can be tested without abrasion.
